Sange Sherpa Conquers Rinjani 100 – 162 KM Category in 41 Hours: An Ultra Trail Epic Above the Clouds of Lombok
Lombok, Indonesia – Mount Rinjani once again stood as a silent witness to the strength, endurance, and spirit of human perseverance during the prestigious ultra trail event, Rinjani 100. This year, all eyes were on the most extreme category: 162 kilometers, with a staggering elevation gain of nearly 14,000 meters.
The spotlight shone on Sange Sherpa, a trail running legend from Nepal, who claimed victory by completing the brutal course in an astonishing 41 hours.
A Hellish Route That Tempts the Brave
The 162K category is not just a race – it’s a full-blown expedition. Participants must endure steep ascents and descents, navigate ridgelines, dense forests, scorching heat during the day, and freezing temperatures at night. Mount Rinjani, towering at 3,726 meters above sea level, is the centerpiece of the course, making this race not only a physical test but a deep mental battle.
Starting from Sembalun, runners are pushed through key points such as Sembalun Crater Rim, Rinjani Summit, Segara Anak Lake, Senaru, Pergasingan Hill, and deep into the Sesaot jungle. With a total elevation gain rivaling Mount Everest’s height, the Rinjani 100 – 162K is the very definition of human resilience.
Sange Sherpa: Master of the Mountains
Sange Sherpa delivered a phenomenal performance throughout the race. Though not the fastest at the start, his steady strategy and mastery of mountain terrain saw him gradually overtake competitors. His extensive experience in the high altitudes of the Himalayas gave him a clear edge on the technical and punishing climbs of Rinjani.
His 41-hour finish was not only a personal triumph but a powerful reminder of what’s possible when preparation meets unbreakable willpower.
